The Foundations of My Journey

Becoming a mother transformed me in ways I had never imagined. As I navigated this profound journey, I embraced holistic practices that profoundly influenced both my birthing experience and my postpartum recovery. This post is a heartfelt share of the resources, insights, and personal choices that guided me through one of the most vulnerable and powerful transitions of my life.

Embracing Knowledge and Preparation

Inspirational Reads:

The First 40 Days by Heng Ou wasn’t just a book for me; it was a guide that helped me understand the importance of nurturing myself as a new mother. It taught me how to create a sanctuary of peace and healing at home, emphasizing recovery and the sacredness of the postpartum period.

Another pivotal book was The Ten Moons by Jane Hardwick. Reading it was a revelation; it debunked so many myths around home births and empowered me to trust in my body’s natural wisdom.

Eye-Opening Perspectives

Watching The Business of Being Born opened my eyes to alternative birthing options and inspired me to seek out a path that felt right, one that honored both my body’s capabilities and my personal preferences.

Courses That Changed My Outlook

The hypnobirthing course I took from Pop That Mumma was a game-changer. It was not just about breathing techniques; it delved deep into how our brains react to birth, the role of hormones, and how a calm demeanor can influence the birthing process. This course was a pillar of strength and a source of great comfort.

Creating a Calm Birthing Environment

My birth playlist was more than background music; it was a carefully curated selection that brought waves of calmness and strength as I stepped through the portal of motherhood. It helped me visualize and stay centered during the most intense moments.

Set & setting: The birth space felt so serene and nurturing, we had a beatiful birth pool with rose petals and fairy lights in the pool, birth Affirmations on the wall, candle lit room & my birth altar

The Sacred Postpartum

Quiet Healing: Choosing to have no visitors for the first 28 days, except for my mom, was a decision that protected my space and healing time. It allowed me to bond with my baby in our little bubble, without the pressure of external expectations.

Preparation and Nutrition: Meal prepping before my due date ensured that we had nutritious, easy-to-digest foods ready, focusing on my recovery and the baby’s health.

A Tip That Made All the Difference

Calendula Tea Magic: My doula’s suggestion to use a thermos flask with warm calendula tea for post-toilet care was soothing and effective. This gentle approach not only aided in my own recovery but also kept my newborn’s skin free from diaper rash—a small, natural miracle.
